Life as a second year in the hospital:

Life as a second year at home...

When I find a well written review article for my indications talk...

When the ED consults us by saying that they think the joints septic, so went ahead and gave antibiotics...

When I've studied chapters 34-36, and am informed at that start of hand conference that it's over chapters 24-26...

I'm pretty sure this is how the other physicians think us orthopods greet each other...

This is how we actually greet each other...

When I'm being pimped, how my attendings respond to most of answers...

After the surgery, when anesthesia starts talking about post-op nausea medications...

When I'm looking over last night's consults 10 minutes before signout, and realize I didn't see/splint a non-displaced ankle fracture...

When an intern uses a splint technique I haven't seen before...

When a trauma and ortho attending actually round and agree on a patient plan...

Hand conference consists of getting pimped by multiple attendings, simultaneously...

When there's a procedure I really want to do, but my attending keeps taking the scalpel...

When I need my attending to sign my vacation slip...

When a fracture that was reduced on the second try, and I accidentally show my first reduction attempt during signout...

When I'm eating lunch, and realize the last patient I touched had raging MRSA...

Whenever I try and help out a co-resident being pimped...

How reductions go when the parents don't want the kid sedated...

Whenever my attending is mad they have to work late...

Whenever me and the ACS resident start arguing because neither of our attendings want to take the patient...

When I'm 4 consults behind, and my pager says 42828 (the ED)...

(5 minutes later, to the communication services person): 'I was walking through the hall and just bumped into a door.  My pager just kind of fell apart.'

When I try and anatomically reduce an oblique both bone forearm fracture in an adult....

When a 6 year old that's getting his arm fixed begs me not to cut off his arm...

Whenever I talk with 4th year med students...

How morning sign out goes when I'm still presenting at 0630 when all the attendings show up for grand rounds...

When a current third year tells me about what their research rotation hours are like...

I'm on call this weekend.  Last weekend's call ended up something like this...

The back of the room when the attending says that the shoulder fracture looks like its got 'two balls'...
