Sunday night after realizing I haven't made the surgery schedule that's being presented monday morning...


When I'm not quite sure how a reduction looks, and the only other person in the room is the synthes rep....











Unless of course, the reduction looks like crap in which case the rep gives a...


My attending was sitting in front of me in a patient room during clinic when we had a little girl with a failed closed reduction of an ankle fracture at an outside hospital.  The mom asked if we would have done a better job with it in our ED...

Nurse at 0314: 'Can I get some more IV pain meds for my patient?'
Me: 'Is he in pain?'
Nurse: 'Well, I woke him up and asked if he was in pain, and he said yes.'

I was told the UC Davis residents look at the blog every now and then... power to the people my brothas.


Me: 'So you can take your dressing off in a about a week, look at your incision, facebook it, instagram it, snapchat it, whatever you want.'
13 y/o patient: 'How you do you know about instagram?'
Me: 'I like post pictures of my kids and stuff.
13 y/o patient: 'Oh, you must be one of the cool dads.'
Me: ...


The exact feeling of switching rotations....

How I felt after studying for all night for case....and then my senior resident ended up doing it...




I closed a wound over a drain with a little bit of an air leak.
My attending: 'The last resident's wounds didn't leak...'

We had a joint patient with plastics where both the plastics and ortho attendings were both scrubbed in and doing the case.  This is what I did with my hands for the first 20 minutes...


Me: 'Hi, I'm Dr. Me.  I'll be assisting my attending with your surg-'
Patient: 'Well... aren't you just precious!'...


Me and a resident started a case yesterday without the attending.  Almost verbatim when the attending walked in...

One of the juniors was getting drilled on an indications about a medial femoral condyle OATS, and at the very end of it threw in "oh, and they also had an ACL tear..."



ED consult: "Hey, I'm just a little worried about a FTS (flexor tenosynovitis), can you come down and see them?"
Me: "Definitely, what happened?"
ED: "Oh, they sliced the back of their hand about 3 days ago..."

I had a research projected accepted for presentation.  In Hawaii.....

I operated with an attending that has some influence on fellowship.  It was going well, until I almost got him with the saw....


I'm about to start a new rotation, which means once again everyone on the new team knows the routine, what they're already supposed to do, and I.... look like the dude on the far right.


When I start taking over a case, I have an attending that will say "I appreciate your enthusiasm", what this really means operatively is....

Resident: "Now what's the difference between the Bristow and the later-jet?"
Attending: "You just take the end of the coracoid in the Bristow."
Resident: "Just the tip?"
Attending: "Yeah, just the tip.  You have to be careful not to break off the tip.  It leads to quite a bad day."
Resident: "I can imagine."
Attending: "I was a little too rough with a tip once, it basically exploded on me."
