When my attending said I should do my hair to look good because 'you only have one chance to make a first impression'...


When the intern asked if the displaced subtroch even needed surgery...


Me: 'So we're going to have to keep you overnight for antibiotics.'
(16 y/o) pt: 'I wanna go home.'
Me: 'You realize you had an open fracture, right? That needs IV antibiotics for a couple days.'
Pt: 'Whatever...(under breath) gay.'



We had a radiology attending give us a lecture that included the physics of the different MRI imaging sequences...


When I document that a patient's extremity was 'wnl', and the xrays the next morning show a fracture there...

We have a sick patient in the medical ICU.  I asked their resident if we could take him to surgery tomorrow, and they started telling me that 'his ammonia was 124, his base deficit was 22, his pro-BNP was trending up, his upper GI series showed...'

One of the private ortho attendings patients (we don't take care of their patients) was starting to crash. Someone pointed out that I was ortho, and I got approached by 3 nurses at once asking for orders...



6 hour surgery started at 0742, coffee before it began at 0631, this happens immediately after we close...



I try and do a humorous slide as the first slide during indications.  This is how most of them go...

What it feels like when your senior told you what to do the night before, and while getting reamed for it the next morning, they sit there....silent....

Going to the PICU and talking to the nurses about pediatric pain control...

This was almost verbatim advice from an attending before starting residency...

When I'm talking with an inpatient, and their roomate starts throwing up...

When we're talking about putting in a screw for locking in a femoral nail during morning sign out and our attending says: 'You've already used that hole.  You've got to take it out and put it in the other hole.'...

This weekend I was reducing an ankle in the ED and bilateral femur fractures rolled into the bed next to us...

When one of my patients has a cast complication and the attending asks who put the cast on...



My reaction when one of my seniors said that 'I have to be careful about what i say when i'm criticizing you, it might end up on your blog'...


When returning a nurse page and she says over the phone: 'I know you guys don't have to come to the floor to write orders, but you need to keep me updated if the patient's surgery is cancelled.  All you wrote is a diet order...'
